Diffuse cortical atrophy was detected for both ε4+ (p = .0001, permutation test) and ε4− patients (p = .0001, permutation test) relative to controls, and overall gray matter loss was about 15% in each patients group. Differences in gray matter loss between carriers and non-carriers mapped to the temporal cortex and right occipital pole (20% greater loss in carriers) and to the posterior cingulate, left orbitofrontal and dorsal fronto-parietal cortex (5–15% greater loss in non-carriers). APOE effect in AD was not significant (p > .74, ANOVA), but a significant APOE by region (temporal vs fronto-parietal cortex) interaction was detected (p = .002, ANOVA), in both early and late-onset patients (p < .05, ANOVA). We conclude that the ε4 allele modulates disease phenotype in AD, being associated with a pattern of differential temporal and fronto-parietal vulnerability.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:40:03 AEDT ]]> Binaural specialisation in human auditory cortex: an fMRI investigation of interaural correlation sensitivity https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1875 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:31:16 AEDT ]]> Functional neuroimaging of cardiac patients following coronary artery bypass graft surgery https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:2966 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:30:23 AEDT ]]> Functional brain maps of Tower of London performance: a positron emission tomography and functional magnetic resonance imaging study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1711 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:27:39 AEDT ]]> Functional neuroanatomy of auditory mismatch processing: an event-related fMRI study of duration-deviant oddballs https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1712 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:27:39 AEDT ]]> Cerebellar grey matter deficits in first-episode schizophrenia mapped using cortical pattern matching https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10763 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:13:54 AEDT ]]> The effects of age and sex on cortical sulci in the elderly https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10285 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:09:08 AEDT ]]> Switching associations between facial identity and emotional expression: a behavioural and ERP study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10902 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:09:03 AEDT ]]> A Bayesian framework for simultaneously modeling neural and behavioral data https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20050 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:00:04 AEDT ]]> The relationship between cortical sulcal variability and cognitive performance in the elderly https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17996 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:56:36 AEDT ]]> APOE4 is associated with greater atrophy of the hippocampal formation in Alzheimer's disease https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17935 0.29). Hippocampal surface analysis showed the typical pattern of CA1 and subicular tissue atrophy in both ε4-carriers and non-carriers compared with controls (e4 carriers: p < 0.0002; ε4 non-carriers: p < 0.01, permutation test). The left hippocampal volume was significantly smaller in ε4-carriers than non-carriers (p = 0.044, Mann–Whitney test), the effect of APOE4 mapping to the subicular/CA1 region (p = 0.041, permutation test). Differences were not statistically significant in the right hippocampus (p > 0.20, permutation test). These findings show that hippocampal atrophy is greater in APOE4 carriers in regions typically affected by pathology.
